Side effects of drugs or endocrine-related disorders can also cause breast enlargement in men. In addition to these, irregular nutrition and obesity in men are also different factors in the formation of gynecomastia.
When does breast enlargement occur in men?
Breast enlargement in men is a health problem that can be seen in childhood, adolescence and over 55 years of age. While this problem should regress especially between the ages of 15 to 18, it can sometimes not regress after adulthood and may become permanent and cause a feminine appearance in men.
Grades of gynecomastia
Gynecomastia is seen in 3 different degrees and breast reduction surgery also differs according to these degrees.
- There is only breast and adipose tissue excess without severe skin sagging.
- There is a small amount of skin sagging and excess breast and adipose tissue.
- There is an excessive skin sagging and excess breast and adipose tissue.
Gynecomastia Treatment
Before breast reduction surgery, the physical appearance and the existing breast tissue are examined. The size of the breast tissue is examined in detail by our specialist doctors and it is observed whether there is any nipple discharge or other findings. Afterwards, the presence of liver disease, thyroid disease or kidney disease is diagnosed, and if no problems are observed, procedures for breast reduction surgery are initiated. Breast reduction surgery can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia, depending on the patient’s condition. After the anesthesia, the operation takes about 1 hour. Our patients do not need to stay in the hospital after the operation, but you may have pain for 2-3 hours after the operation.
